In response to the roadmap for standardizing the competency assessment of medical practitioners, Tan Tao University (TTU) was one of 29 medical training institutions nationwide to coordinate the organization of the pilot test for the competency assessment examination for medical practice. The activity contributes to preparations for the implementation of the official competency assessment examination, while providing medical students and young doctors with early exposure to a standardized assessment format applied nationwide.
Preparing for the Implementation of the New Medical Practice Competency Assessment Examination
On August 5 and 6, 2026, Tan Tao University coordinated with the National Medical Council to organize the pilot test of the competency assessment test for medical practice, in accordance with the plan of the Medical Subcommittee. The activity was conducted simultaneously at 29 medical training institutions nationwide, with the aim of piloting the national competency assessment test for final-year medical students and graduated doctors, while collecting data to evaluate the suitability of the test, refine the examination procedures, and improve the technical system before the official implementation of the medical practice competency assessment examination under Decree No. 96/2023/ND-CP guiding the implementation of the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment.
The pilot test represents an important preparatory step before the official competency assessment examination is implemented nationwide. Through this activity, the National Medical Council and participating training institutions have the opportunity to review and improve examination procedures, technical systems, and coordination mechanisms, helping ensure that the official examination will be conducted consistently, objectively, and effectively.
The pilot test also provides graduated doctors and final-year medical students with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the new competency assessment format. Through this experience, candidates can gain practical insights, evaluate their own competencies, and better prepare for the official competency assessment examination.
TTU Conducts the Pilot Test Seriously and in Compliance with Procedures
At the Tan Tao University Examination Council, 36 candidates, including graduated doctors and final-year medical students, participated in the pilot test. The examination was conducted seriously and in accordance with the procedures and guidelines of the Medical Subcommittee, with adequate facilities, technical infrastructure, and professional conditions to ensure that the examination was conducted safely, objectively, and effectively.
By participating in the organization of the pilot test, Tan Tao University demonstrates its commitment to supporting the ongoing reform of medical education and the competency assessment of medical practitioners. The initiative also reflects the University’s proactive approach to updating emerging requirements of the medical profession within its training programs. Through this experience, students have greater opportunities to gain practical exposure, familiarize themselves with the national competency assessment process, and build confidence ahead of the official examination.
