Vietnamese medicine has made remarkable progress in research, development and application of technology, mastered many modern medical techniques, and gradually made its mark on the world medical map. Contributing to this role, it is impossible not to mention Professor, Doctor Nguyen Ngoc Thach (GS.BS Thach Nguyen), who is a pioneer in bringing Vietnamese students to access American Medicine and Oriental Medicine. the “hands-on” method. Professor is a leading expert in Cardiology in the US, and the founder of interventional cardiology in Vietnam. He is the first Vietnamese-American to be elected to the Executive Committees of the American Heart Association and the American Society of Interventional Cardiology and is the Director of Cardiovascular Research at Methodist Hospital, Merrillville Indiana. Prof. Doctor Thach Nguyen is currently the Vice-Chancellor, in charge of academics, and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Tan Tao University.

Enthusiasm for Medicine and the Noble ideal of the Doctor

During his research life, Prof. Doctor Thach Nguyen devoted a lot of effort to clinical, innovative, and essential research in the field of cardiology. These studies help find new methods to improve coronary risk interventions… and are considered to have a very innovative, groundbreaking approach and bring many new ideas. Professor’s latest research is on cardiovascular hydrodynamics, tracing the origin of the disease.

For Professors, medical students must have both Talent and Virtue. A Doctor is not only good at treatment solutions, skilled knowledge or techniques, but also must have compassion and empathy for each patient he or she cares for and treats. That’s the difference between a DOCTOR and a HEALING MACHINE. He also reminded us that doctors need to pay more attention to making decisions that are in the best interests of their patients, including offering the most reasonable and economical treatment solutions possible. Since cost is always a big problem for patients, prevention is the best and first way, because it alleviates the disease and reduces the cost of treatment. A doctor who does not instruct patients on precautions is not up to the task.

The teacher of many generations of talented doctors and the predestined relationship with Tan Tao University

Having worked in the United States for many years, GS.BS Thach Nguyen understands more than anyone that America is the “mecca” of inventions and scientific research that have an impact on the whole of humanity. For that reason, the Professor as a teacher wants medical students to study medicine according to the American method, learn how to think American style, always seek to create new things, go straight to the problem and solve the problem. decided to the end. Professor emphasizes “hands-on” in clinical practice, the intern doctor will stand next to the patient as the first operator, the lecturer will stand behind the intern and help with the procedure. In this way, medical interns can do a lot and learn a lot.

Prof. Dr. Thach Nguyen has a strong desire to bring the world’s elite to indoctrinate young doctors and medical students in Vietnam to bring the country’s medicine to a new height, which is recognized by the United States and the world. recognized world. With this noble ideal, GS.BS Thach Nguyen met Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Hoang Yen (A.k.a. Prof. Dr. Maya Dangelas), Founder of Tan Tao University (TTU) is also a person with the same ideal of developing the country, investing in the young generation of Vietnam.

In 2016, Prof.BS Thach Nguyen agreed to accept this educational mission, becoming the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of TTU. He has developed an improved TTU Medical program as part of the program of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Illinois, Chicago, USA. Therefore, TTU Medical Faculty is taught under a bilingual program in English and Vietnamese so that students can have foreign language skills to access international medical documents and orient for a teaching environment entirely in English. In particular, Tan Tao University is the first university in Vietnam and the second in Southeast Asia to introduce 3D technology – the Anatomage system into teaching from 2016-2017.

In addition, Tan Tao University has also cooperated with 16 frontline hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City for students to practice, ensure efficiency through practice, and learn from teachers, and clinical doctors. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Thach Nguyen, TTU students have the opportunity to come to the US for 1-2 months to practice at prestigious hospitals such as St Mary Medical Center (Indiana), University of Maryland Medical Center (Maryland), Hermann Memorial Hospital (Texas), Christ Hospital (Illinois). From 2016 to now, 10 groups of students have come to the US to practice. In addition, medical students are given the opportunity to participate in research and scientific reports at national and international seminars and conferences.

It can be seen that with his dedication to the mission of “growing people”, Professor Thach Nguyen has built a dream environment for medical students in Vietnam. The results were not unexpected, the doctors who graduated from TTU have worked in hospitals and medical centers at the local or central levels. There are doctors participating in research, teaching at research institutes, and medical research centers across the country, and participating in resident doctor programs at famous domestic hospitals such as the University Hospital of Medicine and Pharmacy, Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University Hospital,… In 2020, TTU has 4 graduate doctors and in 2021 3 doctors will be awarded scholarships and admitted to VinUniversity’s Resident Doctor program. In addition, some physicians are interns in hospitals in the United States when they complete the requirements of the American medical board.

Prof. Dr. Thach Nguyen is really the standard for the “Fire-bringer”, forging the will, faith, and steadfastness in believing in the medical profession for TTU students in particular and Vietnamese students in general. He created an ideal medical faculty at Tan Tao University with the philosophy of “American Medicine, Hai Thuong Medicine”.
