The Hoa Trang Nguyen Award has been developing through a journey of 12 years together with generations of students of excellence. Let’s again, take a look back at the award that carries the aspiration of Dr. Maya Dang (Dang Thi Hoang Yen).
Hoa Trang Nguyen Award is an award aimed to honour students with excellence in learning. The award was founded by Dr. Maya Dang in 2008. Until now, the award was doing a great job of maintaining its original goal to commemorate talented students achieving excellence in their study all around the country.
The Hoa Trang Nguyen Award is not only an opportunity for brilliant achievements of students to once again be brought to the appreciation of all ceremony participants, but also a chance for all like-minded students who will continue with all their efforts to strive for a better future and a better society in the nation to converge and establish healthy, long-lasting connections. Each candidate, after receiving the Hoa Trang Nguyen Award, will be officially inducted into the Hoa Trang Nguyen Club, in which they will have access to exclusive privileges reserved only for its members.
The Hoa Trang Nguyen Award each year has contributed to the glory of high achievement in learning by talented students, who used to be just diffident poinsettia buds, now have fully bloomed to exude charisma scents and make sweet fruit for the society. In particular, Pham Hoang Man, a Hoa Trang Nguyen Award recipient became the only Vietnamese student in the year to have received the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) inaugurated by the US 44th President Barack Obama. Additionally, another Hoa Trang Nguyen Award Recipient, Nguyen Hoai Dam had grown from an excellent student into a young and proactive editor of Vietnam Central Television Station (VTV), while Nguyen Ngoc Phu had grown to become a host of Vietnam News Agency. Those are just a few amongst many other students succeeded to reap scores of contributions for the society.
“In Tan Tao, there is no shortage of scholarship and many other financial support packages. As long as you are good, and try to promote the best capacity of yourself, you will definitely receive the maximum support for you to improve yourself through the path of learning.” Said Dr. Maya Dang.
In the culture of Vietnam, poinsettia (Hoa Trang Nguyen) is considered a symbol of study success. In the feudal era, each graduate acquiring the official assignment of the king to become a local bureaucrat would be called a poinsettia. With that logic, Dr. Maya Dang founded the Hoa Trang Nguyen Award to honour and sing praise to the pride of high student achievers in their journey to seek to widen their intellectual horizons.
Through the Hoa Trang Nguyen Award, Dr. Maya Dang also aspires to blaze the trail of fine learning tradition of Vietnamese nation throughout the four thousand years of civilisation onwards to the fourth technology resolution. Dr. Maya Dang has always been doing her best to keep the fire of these poinsettia flowers shining.
Until the year of 2019, Hoa Trang Nguyen Award has granted its prizes in the symbol of poinsettia flowers to more than ten thousand students, with the total value of more than 27 billion Dong, equivalent to about 1.2 million USD over 12 seasons that blooms once every year. These awards are to grant to students who win the International Olympic medals, winning the national and provincial contest of students of excellence, and students winning their first places in the university entrance exam.
The Hoa Trang Nguyen Award has been established with the support of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Central Youth Union Committee, Hoi Khuyen Hoc (Study Encouragement Association) and the Association of Universities and Colleges for its noble and good purposes.
In 2019, when Hoa Trang Nguyen season once again flourishes, it is also the time that the journey to extend her aspiration for the sake of the home country’s study development of Dr. Maya Dang (Dang Thi Hoang Yen) turns 12 years of age. Let’s wish her lots of health and success so that the students with excellent achievements nationwide will always be honoured with their talents once every year.
