With the desire to enhance skills and access advanced medical knowledge, the School of Medicine, Tan Tao University (TTU) organized a special clerkship program in the United States for 12 medical students. This is an opportunity for the students to develop themselves in a professional healthcare environment.
The clerkship program in the United States, organized by Tan Tao University, has successfully sent over 10 groups of medical students since 2016. The program takes place annually in June and July. This is a valuable opportunity for medical students, providing them with invaluable practical experiences in a professional healthcare environment, helping them comprehensively develop the essential skills needed for their future medical careers.
During the 5-week clerkship at hospitals and medical facilities such as St. Mary Medical Center, Methodist Hospital, and Purdue University Northwest (Indiana, USA), students will engage in practical activities, including patient examination techniques, disease diagnosis, as well as participating in Problem-Based Learning (PBL) sessions, guided by experienced doctors and medical professionals. These activities not only help students enhance their clinical problem-solving skills but also allow them to develop advanced medical techniques and learn how to apply cutting-edge treatment methods.
Through internships with international doctors and the practice of advanced medical techniques, students not only gain knowledge but also acquire valuable experience in handling situations and patient care. This provides an opportunity to enhance essential soft skills such as communication, time management, and teamwork within a professional environment in the United States. Furthermore, students have the chance to explore and integrate into diverse cultures, broadening their international perspective and deepening their understanding of different cultural values.
The clerkship program in the United States for medical students is not just a step in their education but a significant milestone in each student’s life and career. The hands-on experiences gained from the program not only help the 12 students enhance their professional expertise but also shape their mindset and develop the essential qualities needed to become outstanding doctors. These experiences prepare them to contribute to their communities and elevate Vietnamese medicine to an international level.
