Research on “Broken Heart Syndrome” received the Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award from the American Heart Association (AHA 2023)

Broken-heart syndrome, also known as stress-induced cardiomyopathy or Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, can occur when a person experiences severe emotional or physical stress.

This year’s annual meeting of the American Heart Association (AHA 2023) is held from November 11 to 13 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. School of Medicine – Tan Tao University participated in presenting a study on Takotsubo cardiomyopathy . This study focuses on explaining the mechanism causing chest pain symptoms in patients diagnosed with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy.

Broken-heart syndrome, also known as stress-induced cardiomyopathy or Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, can occur when a person experiences severe emotional or physical stress. In this study, the medical faculty’s research team quantified the slowness of coronary blood flow to the myocardium through the index of arterial phase. This study helps clinicians get direction when treating patients, increasing blood flow to the heart muscle to treat chest pain symptoms in patients.

Also in the 2023 AHA Conference program, research from the School of Medicine – Tan Tao University was honored to be selected for the Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award. The award honors the group of authors with the highest ranked scientific abstract from each country participating in the AHA’s annual scientific meeting. The award is named after Professor Paul Dudley White, one of the founders of the American Heart Association.

Professor Paul Dudley White is a champion of cardiovascular health and a pioneer in the field of preventive cardiology. With his great contributions, since 2017, the American Heart Association has awarded the Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award to recognize research consistent with Dr.’s vision. Paul Dudley White for excellence in cardiovascular and brain health sciences.

The study was presented by Dr. Trang Le, representing the participating research team. The study was conducted in collaboration with the School of Medicine of Tan Tao University (Prof. Dr. Thach Nguyen, Dr. Vu Tri Loc, Dr. Mai Quang Minh, Dr. Trang Le and Dr. Hien Nguyen), Thong Nhat Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Thuong Dung), Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital (Ms. Vu Hoang Vu, M.D. 1 Nguyen Duc Chinh, M.D. Tran Minh Duc) and Hanoi E Hospital (Ms. Dr. Le Do Anh).
