ACC Asia 2023 conference with the theme Transforming Global Health Together is held in Manila, Philippines

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death globally, research and treatment of cardiovascular diseases still pose many challenges. With the orientation of being a research university, the School of Medicine and Tan Tao University always create opportunities for students to research and contribute their intelligence to solving global health problems. Therefore, lecturers at the School of Medicine – Tan Tao University regularly support students to participate in research and take them to conferences around the world.

This time, student Dinh Vu Nhat Xuan together with lecturers from the School of Medicine attended and reported at the ACC Asia conference. This is a place for cardiologists from the US and Asia to sit down, learn together and find ways to improve the health of patients.

At this conference, Dr. Vu Tri Loc, School of Medicine, Tan Tao University and student Dinh Vu Nhat Xuan (6th year Medical student) participated and reported 4 research articles.

Student Dinh Vu Nhat Xuan reported on the study “Myocardial Infarction In Very Elderly Patients”, roughly translated “Myocardial Infarction in very elderly patients”. This study focuses on diagnosis, treatment and patient monitoring after discharge from the hospital in patients with myocardial infarction over 80 years old. Nhat Xuan said that Myocardial infarction (MI) is a common cardiovascular disease and can cause serious consequences, or death, for the patient’s health. Especially in the elderly, MI becomes a more challenging problem due to risk factors and age-related decline in health. This study focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of patients over 80 years old with MI after hospital discharge.

The research was conducted with specific objectives:

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of MI treatment methods in the elderly.
  • Research on appropriate treatment methods for elderly people with MI.
  • Post-treatment monitoring to assess patient’s quality of life and major cardiovascular events after discharge from the hospital.

For many years, Tan Tao University has created conditions, encouraged and supported students to carry out their research projects. With an ideal learning and research environment, the school’s students have been completing many highly applicable research topics.

Dr. Vu Tri Loc took a photo with Dr. Zang (left) and Dr. Hongzhao (center), two cardiovascular experts from Beijing, China. Dr. Zang’s research team won an award for one of the three best research studies at the conference. At the farewell party, Dr. Zang shared specific research with the research team of the School of Medicine – Tan Tao University.
