Tan Tao University (TTU) organized a sharing session entitled “How to Study Medicine – Learning Tips” with Assoc. Prof. Ann Nguyen, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Cardiology at the University of Chicago, USA. The program provided medical students with an opportunity to discuss their academic challenges, receive practical advice, and discover more effective learning methods.

Engaging with an Expert to Address Challenges in Medical Education
Assoc. Prof. Ann Nguyen, MD, PhD, is an expert in the fields of heart failure, heart transplantation, and left ventricular assist devices (LVADs). Her research has been published in numerous prestigious scientific journals, including the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation and Circulation. She has also presented at major professional conferences, such as those organized by the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) and the Vietnam National Heart Association. In addition, she is a member of several reputable professional organizations, including the American Heart Association (AHA), the Heart Failure Society of America, and the American Society of Transplantation.
Given the extensive volume of knowledge, the depth of specialized content, and the need for continuous updates, studying medicine requires more than diligence. It also calls for effective learning strategies, time management skills, and the ability to organize and synthesize knowledge systematically. Developing appropriate study methods enables students to take a more proactive approach to acquiring, retaining, and applying knowledge.
In response to these practical needs, the sharing session was organized to provide an open and interactive environment where students could ask questions directly, discuss their academic challenges, and receive advice from an expert with extensive experience in the medical and international academic environments.

During the program, students discussed their current learning methods, the challenges of handling the extensive body of medical knowledge, and ways to manage their time across different courses. After listening to the students’ real-life concerns, Assoc. Prof. Ann Nguyen offered practical recommendations, focusing on effective time management, selecting suitable learning strategies, and developing proactive study habits.

Through these direct exchanges, students had the opportunity to reassess their own learning approaches, identify areas for improvement, and explore methods suited to their abilities and academic goals. The Professor’s insights also helped students better understand the importance of structured learning, effective time allocation, and maintaining a proactive attitude throughout the process of acquiring specialized medical knowledge.
TTU Supports Students on Their Journey to Mastering Medicine
Through this program, Tan Tao University continues to prioritize opportunities for medical students to gain access to professional expertise, learning strategies, and perspectives from the international academic community. This activity also reflects the University’s commitment to supporting students throughout their academic and personal development, not only in terms of specialized knowledge but also in developing independent learning skills and the ability to adapt to the demands of their future profession.
With its commitment to quality education, TTU hopes that sharing sessions such as “How to Study Medicine – Learning Tips” will help students gradually develop effective learning strategies, gain greater confidence in overcoming the challenges of medical education, and build a solid foundation for their journey toward becoming physicians with strong professional competence, a commitment to lifelong learning, and a sense of responsibility to the community.
