On its 45th anniversary of establishment, Thong Nhat Hospital held a scientific conference called “The 5th Conference on Cardiology and Geriatrics” on various topics and sessions involved in cardiology, disease, emergency or treatment updates according to the latest clinical practice guidelines.
This conference also seperated a session only in English for young doctors and students. On the afternoon of October 30th, 2020, under the coordination of Dr. Suong Nguyen (Thong Nhat Hospital), Dr. Bui Quoc Thang (Deputy of Scientific Research Department – Cho Ray Hospital, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Young Doctor Association), MSc. MD. Le Bao Huy (Head of Training Department of Thong Nhat Hospital) participated as judges.
There were 11 topics including clinical studies, basic science from young researchers. TTU School of Medicine had 4 presentations.
First, Duong Danh Nguyen Hien – junior student reported on the topic “Application of machine learning to observe the angiogram for matching time and length of stagnant flow RCA and location of the lesion”. This study was guided by Professor Thach Nguyen. Based on the theory of hydrodynamics, and the observation of Angiogram, the study built the basis for applying artificial intelligence to coronary imaging analysis to predict lesions in the near future. It is a complex study with multidisciplinary links between hydrodynamics, cardiology and computer science. Nguyen Hien has brought many surprises to the audience.
Next, there came a presentation from Truong Trien Khang about “Symmetric interval pedicle screw instrumentation for treatment of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis”. This study was performed and sampled at Hospital Trauma Orthopedics of Ho Chi Minh City. With the confidence in presentation from a prospective surgeon, Khang made a strong impression on the doctors and delegates.
The third part was the presentation of Doctor Truyen Thien Tan Tri Tai. The study was “Successful treatment of acute decompensated heart failure and severe symptomatic hyponatremia on the setting of unilateral absence of pulmonary artery by combining Tolvaptan into standard regimen”. This clinical case was also delivered to the Central American Heart Conference 2019. Great gratitude for Dr. Tai and Dr. Phillip Tran.
Finally, there came a presentation by Huynh Ngoc Phuong Thanh. With the topic “Using sulforaphane, a broccoli compound, to prevent posterior capsular opacification (PCO) after cataract surgery”, Phuong Thanh has demonstrated her great confidence and understanding in what she is pursuing.
At the end of the session, the delegation and the Organizing Committee selected the best reporters to be awarded and encouraged the learning and research spirit of young doctors and students. Truong Trien Khang won the Honor Award.
We wish the best to all the students. Congratulations to Truong Trien Khang and his initial successes. And special thanks to Thong Nhat Hospital for the opportunity to interact with the hospital’s young doctors and researchers.
