On July 19, 2023, Assoc.Prof Meden F. Isaac-Lam (Fulbright Scholar) with Dr. Nguyen Thanh Dien (Head of Management and Training) came to Thong Nhat Hospital to visit, exchange cooperation and report on Topic: “Chemistry Applications in Cancer and in Mental Disorder”.
Thong Nhat Hospital is a Grade I general hospital, under the Ministry of Health, with a scale of 1200 beds, including 51 departments and rooms; including internal medicine (20 departments), surgical block (11 departments), subclinical block and organ block (12 departments, rooms). Before 1975, Thong Nhat Hospital was called “For the People”. Thong Nhat Hospital is the first dialysis center in Vietnam to receive ISO 9001-2015 certificate with 20 hemodialysis machines, the leading new generation RO water treatment system in Europe. Is a stroke treatment unit recognized by the World Stroke Organization as the international gold standard Golden Angel Award.
In addition, Thong Nhat Hospital stands out in the field of specialized cardiology, successfully implementing many advanced and modern techniques and successfully deployed such as open heart surgery, carotid artery surgery, aortic surgery, interventional cardiovascular procedures, thoracic surgery.
The content of the thematic report revolves around the application of chemotherapy in cancer treatment related to the synthesis of photosensitizers with potential for use in photodynamic therapy. In vitro tests used to determine their photodynamic efficacy were performed in triple negative breast cancer cells and prostate cancer cells. Magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy is the application of chemistry in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a mental disorder that affects some US service members. A novel sequence was used to simultaneously quantify different neurometabolites in specific brain regions in human subjects with PTSD.
